Thursday Update 12/22

Tongariro River Trail

It has been an exciting week watching the progress of the trail. The section linking the Waikari Loop track to the Tongariro National Trout Centre should be completed this time next week. There is probably another two weeks of track finishing work to complete our section of work. The Department of Conservation should take about 8 weeks to complete their section of work.

River Works

An on site meeting was held today with Advocate committee members, Department of Conservation and Waikato Regional Council to consider the implications of the river work as at the Crescent Reserve in Turangi. Discussion was had as to what needs to be done.

The major problem was identified as a loss of water from the main channel with most of the water going down the newly created engineered channel. The photos tell the story.

Fishing Report

Winter cold with nice fine days has made the the fishing hard but there are more fish being caught than in previous weeks. The Kinloch fishing competition with over 300 anglers had a catch rate of approximately 1 fish per day per angler.
